Jellyfin, from your phone.

Cupola is a free, open-source app for Jellyfin on iPhone, iPad, Android and Mac. It connects straight to your own Jellyfin, with no account.

What Cupola does with Jellyfin

  • Who is watching right now, transcode reasons, resume points, libraries, users, devices and tasks
  • Pause, stop or message a session

Control: Read + sessions. Signs in with: API key + viewer.

How well it is tested

Verified end to end: Cupola's screens and actions have run against a real Jellyfin.

Connect Jellyfin

Before you start. The key signs in as an administrator but carries no user of its own, so pick whose watch state to read in Settings afterwards.

  1. Its address, with the port: http://192.168.1.20:8096 by default, or your reverse proxy's address. More on addresses.
  2. The API key, in Jellyfin's web interface: Dashboard → Advanced → API Keys.
  3. Test it before you save. If it fails, Cupola tells you why.

Away from home, Cupola uses your VPN or reverse proxy: how that works.

Questions

Is there a Jellyfin app for iPhone and Android?

Yes: Cupola, free and open source, connects to Jellyfin directly. It is a public TestFlight beta on iPhone, iPad and Mac, and an APK on Android. See install.

Where do I find the Jellyfin API key?

In Jellyfin's own web interface: Dashboard → Advanced → API Keys.

How do I manage my home server from my phone when I am away?

With the route you already have: a VPN such as WireGuard or Tailscale, or a reverse proxy. Give a connection a second address for when you are out, and Cupola uses whichever one answers.

My services are behind a reverse proxy with a self-signed certificate. Will it work?

Yes. Cupola asks once before trusting a certificate, then pins it to that host. Cloudflare Access tokens, proxy passwords and custom headers work too.
